The LYN Project collaborated with the Youth Empowerment Siskiyou organization to find and present 3 Y.E.S. candidates from rural communities with educational grants. Our grants provide support to our LYN neighbors while creating space for growth and financial responsibility.
With each educational grant, our LYN neighbors are required to volunteer time through acts of service and promise to “pay it forward” by manufacturing support and opportunities for others to thrive in the not-so-distant future. Whether it’s becoming a teacher, an environmental scientist, or a firefighter, we wish you the best of luck, Y.E.S. Candidates!
Our Story
The Love Your Neighbor Project was inspired by a simple philosophy: love people by helping them. The LYN Project founders were born in Kerala, India, during the collapse of the caste system in the south, but the 2,000-year-old social hierarchy imposed on people by birth continued to exist in several aspects of people’s lives. Many estate owners in the community preferred to follow the old practice of sustaining their attendants’ low status in life. However, the founder’s parents believed in the virtues of education and empowerment; they taught basic reading and writing skills to their attendants so they could pick up a newspaper and learn about the world from their perspective. This unusual act of kindness and generosity made a deep impact on the LYN founders who carried the same ideals throughout their personal and professional lives.
As the LYN Project founders continue to develop their vision of the future, they remain committed to providing opportunities based on an ancient belief: “Teach a neighbor to fish and you’ll feed them for a lifetime.” The LYN Project resources are focused on embracing community enrichment, education, health care, and housing initiatives. To our neighbors who wish to join us in helping others in the LYN Project community, whether it be within a personal, professional, or charitable capacity, we invite you to contact us.
